9 Medals Won At WSC 2013 Proves Malaysians As Skillful As People In Developed Countries

PUTRAJAYA, July 10 (Bernama) -- Winning nine medals for excellence at the World Skills Competition (WSC) 2013 shows that Malaysia possesses manpower who are as skillful as their counterparts in developed countries.

Human Resources Deputy Minister Datuk Ismail Abd Mutallib said the expertise of 14 students who contributed to that victory should be used in the best way to enhance the skills of Malaysian workers.

He said Malaysia's involvement in the competition participated by 54 countries in Leipzig, Germany from July 3 to 6, received the cooperation of various parties including the private and public sectors.

"The sponsorship and assistance came in the form of expertise, equipment and technology, besides financial, needed by the Malaysian contingent to prepare for the competition," he said at a reception for the WSC 2013 national contingent, here, Wednesday.

He hoped more parties would come forward to support Malaysian participants at the next edition of the competition in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 2015.

At the WSC 2013, Malaysia took part in 14 areas of skills including cookery, restaurant service, fashion technology, hairstyling, freezing and air-conditioning, heating and piping, welding, electrical installation and IT system.

The competition was participated by 1,024 youths aged 22 and below in 46 fields of skills.
